A federal judge has temporarily barred Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing U.S. Treasury payment systems, sparking a fiery response from the billionaire. The decision came after 19 Democratic-led states sued, claiming DOGE’s involvement posed “huge cybersecurity risks” to critical funding for health clinics, climate projects, and education programs.
Judge Paul Engelmayer, appointed by former President Obama, called the states’ arguments “particularly strong” and ordered DOGE-linked officials to immediately destroy any copied Treasury data. Musk fired back on X, calling the ruling “absolutely insane!” and clarifying that government employees—not his team—were handling recent payment system updates.
