Could a Partial Ceasefire Be on the Horizon?
Ukraine is pushing for a 'partial ceasefire' during high-stakes talks in Saudi Arabia next week, where U.S. officials will meet separately with Ukrainian and Russian delegations . A Ukrainian source told AFP they’re aiming to halt strikes on energy sites, civilian infrastructure, and Black Sea attacks: 'We still want to agree on a ceasefire, at least on what we have proposed.'
Global Pressure Mounts for Peace
With the U.S. reportedly urging both sides to compromise, momentum for a deal is building. Zhao Junjie, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, noted: 'Both sides have paid a heavy price. Seeking peace has become necessary.' He added that shifts in U.S. policy could force Russia and Ukraine to the table.
What’s on the Table?
While both nations claim they support a 30-day pause in attacking energy infrastructure—a move Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday—Kyiv accuses Moscow of already violating the pause. Monday’s talks in Saudi Arabia will test whether even a temporary ceasefire is achievable.
