China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji met with Finnish Parliament Speaker Jussi Halla-aho in Beijing this week, as the two nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The talks centered on boosting cooperation while emphasizing shared political principles .
Zhao highlighted China’s commitment to deepening reforms and expanding global partnerships, creating what he called 'new opportunities' for collaboration in tech, sustainability, and trade. Finland was urged to uphold the one-China principle, which Zhao called the 'political foundation' for mutual trust.
The leaders also discussed youth exchanges and cultural programs to build 'public support' for bilateral relations—think K-pop meets Nordic design, but in diplomatic form. 'It’s a partnership built on stability and future-proofing,' Zhao remarked.
With both nations eyeing economic growth in green energy and AI sectors, Zhao stressed the need for a 'favorable legal environment' to protect investments and innovation. Could this spark a Nordic-Asia tech wave? Watch this space
