Beijing is gearing up to serve some serious table tennis action! The Chinese capital has been named host of the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash for five consecutive years, starting this autumn. The first edition kicks off on September 26–October 6 at Shougang Park, a venue that blends industrial chic with sporting glory.
This isn’t just any tournament—it’s part of the WTT Grand Smash series, joining heavyweights like the Singapore Smash and the newly announced Saudi Arabia Smash. With 2,000 ranking points up for grabs across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, expect fierce rallies and jaw-dropping spins!
“Beijing is a legendary sports city,” said Steve Dainton, WTT director and ITTF CEO. “Hosting this event here honors table tennis’ history while pushing it into the future.” Liu Guoliang, China’s table tennis chief, added: “This is a milestone for Beijing’s sports legacy.”
Fun fact: This marks Beijing’s first major international table tennis showdown since the 1961 World Championships—so yeah, it’s kind of a cultural reset moment. With the city’s Olympic heritage and China’s table tennis obsession, this event is set to be a must-watch for sports fans and culture enthusiasts alike!
