The Paris 2024 Olympics will welcome the largest Refugee Olympic Team in history, featuring 36 athletes from 11 countries—a powerful symbol of resilience and hope for displaced people worldwide.
Chosen from 74 candidates and supported by 15 National Olympic Committees, these athletes will compete across 12 sports, including boxing, canoeing, and athletics. Among the standout stories: Cindy Ngamba, the team’s first-ever boxer, and Saeid Fazloula, a kayaker who learned of his selection while cradling his son. ‘It’s amazing to hear I’m officially part of this team,’ Fazloula shared.
Led by former Tokyo 2020 refugee athlete Masomah Ali Zada, the squad debuts a new emblem—a heart-shaped arrow symbolizing unity and determination. ‘Competing taught me that every dream is possible, no matter the challenges,’ Zada said.
As the Games kick off July 26, their participation underscores the IOC’s message: sport transcends borders. From war zones to the world stage, these athletes are rewriting their stories—one lap, punch, and paddle at a time.
