China’s Sun Jiaqi & Deng Yawen Gear Up for Paris BMX Freestyle 🚴‍♂️✨

The Chinese Cycling Association has unveiled its squad for the Paris Summer Olympics, featuring BMX freestylers Sun Jiaqi and Deng Yawen. Both athletes secured their spots by excelling in the Olympic Qualifier Series held in Shanghai and Budapest.

At the Shanghai qualifier, Sun and Deng impressed by finishing on the podium alongside teammate Sun Sibei. Despite Sun Sibei's unexpected miss in reaching the Budapest final, Sun Jiaqi and Deng Yawen, aged 19 and 18 respectively, transitioned smoothly from other cycling disciplines to become key members of one of the world’s top BMX freestyle teams.

China's BMX Freestyle team, established in 2018, has rapidly risen to prominence, garnering numerous awards within just six years. Sun Jiaqi made history as China’s first BMX World Cup champion, while Deng Yawen is celebrated as the team’s most versatile rider. Although Sun Sibei, the runner-up at last year’s World Championships, will not compete in Paris, her legacy remains strong with Chinese athletes dominating the podium from second to sixth place.

As the Olympics approach, Sun Jiaqi reflected on her performance in Shanghai, recognizing the hard work ahead to make a significant impact in Paris. With dedication and skill, China’s BMX freestylers are set to shine on the global stage.
