The 2024 Paris Olympics will make history as the first Games with full gender parity, featuring equal numbers of male and female athletes across all events – a leap from just 2% female participation in 1900.
Breaking Barriers
\"We're super proud to align the Games with modern values,\" said Aurélie Merle, Executive Director of Sport Competitions, during an interview with CGTN Sports Scene. \"Women's sports will finally get the same visibility as men's.\"
By the Numbers
With 10,500 athletes competing in 329 events, organizers teamed up with broadcasting giants and sports federations to balance TV coverage. \"We strategically placed women's events to maximize exposure,\" Merle revealed.
Behind the Scenes
From coordinating with Olympic Broadcasting Services to negotiating with international networks, Merle called the effort \"one of the toughest jobs\" – but worth it for the \"amazing new female events\" debuting this summer.
