At 58, Zeng Zhiying is proving age is just a number as she prepares for her first Olympic appearance at the Paris 2024 Games—representing Chile. The former Chinese table tennis pro, who once retired at 20 due to fierce competition in the Chinese national team, has staged a jaw-dropping comeback.
\"Very exciting. This is my first Olympics, so I feel very happy and excited,\" Zeng told CGTN Sports Scene. \"On the Olympic stage, I just wanted to show my real abilities… We are equal on either side of the table.\"
After coaching in Chile for years, Zeng picked up her paddle again during the COVID-19 pandemic and clawed her way into the Chilean national team at 57. Her routine? Training 3 hours daily, balancing matches and fitness to stay injury-free. \"If I can get through the trials, I’ll keep playing,\" she said.
Zeng’s journey—from teenage phenom to Olympic late bloomer—is serving major inspiration goals. Who says dreams have an expiration date?
