Sun & Wang Secure Mixed Doubles Gold, Restoring China’s Table Tennis Dominance 🏓🥇

China strikes gold again! Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin clinched the mixed doubles table tennis title at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, marking a triumphant return for the team. 🏅

In a thrilling final, Sun and Wang overcame their opponents from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong, with a score of 4-2. The games went 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, and 11-8, showcasing intense competition on both sides.

This victory fills the gap left since the debut of the mixed doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, where the Chinese team narrowly missed the title. Back in 2021, Liu Shiwen and Xu Xin were bested by the Japanese duo, Mima Ito and Jun Mitzutani, in the finals.

The road to victory wasn't without its hurdles. During the celebration, Wang Chuqin's paddle was accidentally damaged by enthusiastic photographers eager to capture the winning moment. Despite the initial frustration, Wang quickly regained his focus, helping his team secure the gold medal. 🏓💪
