Retired world taekwondo champion Wu Jingyu of China attended the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris to show her support for the taekwondo team. In an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Greg Laffradi, Wu sent her heartfelt wishes for Team China's success.
Wu Jingyu is a legendary figure in taekwondo, having secured two Olympic gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Games. Her impressive resume also includes two World Taekwondo Championships and two Asian Games titles.
Though retired in July 2021, Wu's passion for the sport remains undiminished. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) invited her to the 2024 Olympic Games, where she had the honor of being a torchbearer in the Olympic village and served on the competition supervisory board.
\"I will definitely be watching the taekwondo events,\" Wu shared. \"Wishing the best to all the Chinese athletes competing in Paris!\"
China is fielding a team of six taekwondo athletes at the 2024 Paris Games. Luo Zongshi, Guo Qing, Song Jie, and Zhou Zeqi are set to compete in the women's 57kg, 49kg, 67kg, and 67+kg categories respectively. On the men's side, Liang Yushuai and Song Zhaoxiang will battle it out in the 68kg and 80+kg events.
