From Polio to Podium: A Story of Resilience 🚣♀️

Wang Lili, 42, is gearing up for her second Paralympic appearance in Paris, determined to prove age is just a number. Born in Zhejiang Province, Wang overcame polio-induced mobility challenges as a child and spent years as an accountant before discovering rowing at 28. Her 2016 Rio Paralympics debut earned two silver medals—a feat she hopes to surpass this year.

‘Rowing Taught Me Confidence’ 💪

‘I laugh more now than I ever did before,’ Wang told China Media Group. The sport helped her shed feelings of inferiority: ‘Here, everyone is the same.’ Para rowing demands extreme endurance—athletes train through scorching summers, strapped to boats with coaches on standby to prevent dehydration and heatstroke.

Team China’s Paralympic Charge 🇨🇳

China will field eight rowers and two coaches in Paris across three events. Wang’s journey mirrors the spirit of the team: relentless, joyful, and unyielding. ‘Pain is temporary,’ she says. ‘The happiness of pushing limits? That lasts forever.’
