NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau and Brother Die in NJ Bicycle Accident

It’s a heartbreaking day for hockey fans around the world as NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother, Matthew, tragically lost their lives in a bicycle accident in their home state of New Jersey. 🚴‍♂️💔

The Gaudreau brothers were cycling in Oldmans Township on Thursday night when a suspected drunken driver struck them from behind around 8:00 p.m., just hours before midnight. The accident occurred less than a half-hour after sunset, leading to their immediate passing at the scene.

Johnny, 31, and Matt, 29, were native to Carneys Point and were set to play vital roles as groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding, which was scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia. The devastating event has left the community and fans mourning the loss of two wonderful young men. 😢

The driver, 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins, is facing serious charges including death by auto, reckless driving, and alcohol-related offenses. Police reported that Higgins admitted to consuming five or six beers before the crash and failed a field sobriety test.

Jerry York, who coached the Gaudreau brothers at Boston College, expressed his sorrow, saying, \"Just devastating news for all of us connected with the Gaudreau family. Both Matty and Johnny were terrifically admired by all of us. Wonderful young guys, and they impressed a lot of us off the ice.\"

Johnny Gaudreau, also known as \"Johnny Hockey,\" was a beloved player for the Columbus Blue Jackets and had previously made his mark with the Calgary Flames. His legacy on and off the ice will be remembered by fans and teammates alike.
