Four Chinese table tennis players, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Liang Jingkun, and Lin Gaoyuan, kicked off the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao with impressive victories in the first-round singles matches at the event held in Macao Special Administrative Region on Monday.
Sun Yingsha faced a tough opponent in Jeon Ji-hee of South Korea during the women's singles event. After a nail-biting start with two close games (14-12, 12-10), Sun elevated her performance to clinch the third game decisively with an 11-1 win.
"I think Jeon played well today," Sun shared with reporters post-match. "It's true that I haven't trained in a systematic way since the 2024 Paris Olympic Games ended, but that's something professional players have to get used to because competitions follow each other closely."
Wang Manyu advanced to the second round after defeating Bernadette Szocs of Romania with scores of 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, 11-9.
On the men's side, Liang Jingkun secured a 3-0 victory over Edward Ly of Canada (11-3, 11-4, 11-6), while Lin Gaoyuan swept Omar Assar of Egypt 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 to move forward in the tournament.
"I took some days off after the Olympics and returned to regular training sessions recently," Liang commented. "It's very helpful and I felt good in the match."
