Paris Olympic Village’s Cardboard Beds Get Eco-Friendly Second Life 🌱🏅

The Paris 2024 Olympic Village is giving its 16,000 cardboard beds a new purpose post-Games—proving sustainability and medals can go hand in hand! 🛏️✨ Organizers announced the beds, designed to hold up to ‘three or four jumping athletes’ during victory celebrations, are now being donated to French organizations as part of Paris 2024’s green vision.

‘We wanted spectacular and responsible Games,’ said Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet, highlighting efforts to ensure equipment like the washable, bedbug-resistant mattresses avoids landfill. The initiative builds on Tokyo 2021’s reusable cardboard bed concept by Japanese brand Airweave, which also supplied Paris’ eco-friendly bedding.

Airweave’s logistics manager Chie Fujii confirmed the beds will support communities across France, adding: ‘No bed bugs? Easy second life!’ 😂 The move reflects a growing trend in mega-events to tackle waste—one mattress at a time.
