China's Zhang Shuai and Salvadorian partner Marcelo Arevalo saw their Wimbledon mixed doubles journey end in the semifinals on Tuesday, falling 7-6(5), 6-3 to Britain's Joe Salisbury and Brazil's Luisa Stefani. Despite a fierce tiebreak battle in the first set, the duo couldn't maintain momentum against their opponents' relentless returns.
🔥 'This Wimbledon journey is really perfect,' Zhang told reporters after the match. The 34-year-old made history as the first Chinese player to reach multiple Wimbledon mixed doubles semifinals, having also partnered John Peers in 2021. Though disappointed, she reflected positively: 'We tried our best – no regrets saying goodbye to the court.'
Zhang's campaign included a third-round women's doubles appearance and a singles qualification breakthrough. Her performance with Arevalo followed their French Open semifinal run last month, proving their growing chemistry. Salisbury/Stefani will now face Katerina Siniakova and Sem Verbeek in Thursday's final.
