Chinese Embassy Donates $500K to Combat Cholera in Zambia 💉🌍

The Chinese Embassy in Zambia has generously donated over $500,000 to assist the Zambian government in combating the ongoing cholera outbreak. 🤝🌍

The donation is part of a series of cholera assistance measures initiated by the embassy since the outbreak began in October last year, resulting in over 20,000 cases and more than 700 fatalities.

Wang Sheng, charge d'affaires at the Chinese embassy, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the embassy and Zambian authorities over the past month to implement these assistance measures.

\"We are delighted to see that the cholera outbreak in Zambia has been alleviated, but its eradication remains a long-term task,\" Wang said during the handover ceremony attended by Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane.

Zambian Minister Musokotwane expressed gratitude for China's generous support, emphasizing that Zambia's success in controlling the outbreak was not only due to the nation's resolve but also the invaluable assistance from partners like China.

The donated funds will aid in improving sanitation and water supply systems, crucial steps to prevent future outbreaks. Additionally, a Chinese vaccine manufacturer is exploring the possibility of producing vaccines locally in Zambia as a long-term measure.

Wang assured that the Chinese government and people remain committed to supporting Zambia, not only in the fight against cholera but also in addressing challenges like drought, which has led to national food security concerns and electricity shortages.
