China’s Scientific Literacy Soars to 14.14% in 2023 📈🔬

Great news! 📢 China's scientific literacy rate has reached an impressive 14.14% in 2023, marking a significant jump from last year’s 12.93%. This upward trend showcases the nation's commitment to enhancing scientific understanding among its citizens.

The 13th China Citizens' Scientific Literacy Survey, released by the China Association for Science and Technology, highlights a balanced nationwide improvement. For the first time, the literacy gap between eastern, central, and western regions has narrowed, reflecting widespread educational advancements.

Women are leading the charge, with their scientific literacy levels rising rapidly, helping to close the gender gap. Rural residents are also making strides, catching up to their urban counterparts and reducing the urban-rural disparity in scientific knowledge.

China considers a scientific literacy rate of at least 10% as a mark of an innovative scientific and technological workforce, a benchmark it surpassed back in 2020 with 10.56%. The latest growth signals that China is building a solid foundation for becoming a global leader in innovation.

While these achievements are commendable, there's still room for growth. Compared to major developed countries where scientific literacy rates are between 20% to 30%, China continues to strive towards closing this gap. The upward trend is a positive indicator of ongoing efforts to boost scientific education and literacy.
