At the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing, 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner Aaron Ciechanover dropped some serious wisdom about the role of science. “The beauty of science lies in its transparency,” he declared, emphasizing that its ultimate purpose is to serve humanity.

Ciechanover, known for his groundbreaking work on protein degradation, highlighted how open scientific processes build public confidence. “When people see how discoveries are made, they understand science isn’t magic—it’s a tool for progress,” he said, nodding to younger generations’ hunger for authenticity.

The laureate stressed that innovation isn’t just about labs and journals: “From climate tech to medical breakthroughs, science must prioritize improving lives.” His rallying cry? “Next-gen researchers: Stay curious, stay humble, and always ask, ‘Who benefits?’”
