Apple Boosts Siri with OpenAI Partnership, Uses Google’s AI Tech

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced an exciting deal with OpenAI on Monday to integrate a powerful AI model into Siri.

Behind the scenes, Apple’s engineers are using their own framework and hardware, including on-premise GPUs and Google’s exclusive tensor processing units (TPUs), to train their AI models.

Google has been at the forefront of TPU development for a decade, offering advanced AI training capabilities. Their fifth-generation TPUs match the performance of Nvidia’s H100 chips, and they’re set to launch the sixth generation later this year!

These TPUs are specifically designed for running AI applications, supported by Google’s robust cloud computing platform. However, accessing Google’s TPUs means purchasing through their cloud services, similar to how businesses use AWS or Azure.

Neither Apple nor Google has provided further comments on the extent of their hardware collaborations or the use of other AI vendors like Nvidia.
