China’s New ‘Health-First’ Strategy Transforms Healthcare 🌟

China is taking a big step towards a healthier future with its new \\"health-first strategy\\"! 🌟 With over 20% of its population now over 60 and a growing focus on wellness, China is shifting gears from just treating diseases to actively maintaining overall health.

This exciting strategy was unveiled during the recent third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee. The goal? To prioritize disease prevention and health management for all residents. 🏥💪

Gordon G. Liu, dean of the Institute for Global Health and Development at Peking University, shares that this shift is part of a global trend. In aging societies, the demand for high-quality health management, chronic disease management, and long-term care is skyrocketing.

But there’s still room to grow! Liu points out that China needs to boost capacities in areas like disease monitoring, early warning systems, risk assessment, and emergency response to keep its massive population healthy and safe.

Great news! In recent years, China has made significant strides in combating chronic diseases and preventing epidemics. Action plans have targeted four major chronic diseases responsible for over 80% of deaths, with measures like early diabetes awareness and enhanced screening for respiratory diseases.

When it comes to cancer, China is stepping up its game with early screening services covering most of the top 10 cancer types. Imagine nearly 200 million women benefiting from screenings for cervical and breast cancer! 🎗️

China is also enhancing its epidemic response with a direct reporting system across around 84,000 medical institutions, aiming to strengthen risk monitoring capabilities even more.

Home care is getting a boost too, as the country expands family doctor services and long-term care insurance schemes to provide care right at home. 🏡❤️

This comprehensive approach requires teamwork across various departments, inspired by the success of medical reforms in Sanming, Fujian Province. Zhan Jifu, the former head of the Fujian provincial healthcare security bureau, believes that such collaboration is key to meeting the public's demand for healthier lives.

Looking ahead, reforming medical insurance systems to align with medical services is crucial. New payment methods are being explored to encourage doctors to practice in communities and households, making healthcare more accessible for everyone. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

China's 'health-first strategy' is a promising move towards a healthier, happier population, setting an example for the world to follow. 🌍✨
