China Steps Up as Key Player in UN’s Digital Future Pact
At the UN’s Summit of the Future, nations rallied behind the new Global Digital Compact (GDC)—a blueprint to tackle tech inequality and boost global cooperation. China, a vocal advocate, praised the move as a “game-changer” for bridging digital divides and fostering fair AI governance.
What’s in the GDC?
The compact targets five goals: closing digital gaps, boosting inclusivity in the digital economy, creating safer online spaces, improving digital governance, and ensuring AI benefits humanity. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called it “a win for multilateralism,” aligning with China’s existing efforts like the Global AI Governance Initiative.

With initiatives like data security standards and AI governance dialogues, China aims to lead the charge in turning the GDC’s vision into reality. Will this pact spark a global tech revolution? Stay tuned.
