China Pushes Back Against U.S. Ban on EV Tech 🚗⚡

Beijing is doubling down on protecting its tech sector after the U.S. proposed banning Chinese-made software and hardware in connected cars over ‘national security’ claims. 🇨🇳 ‘We’ll firmly defend our rights,’ declared Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, calling the move discriminatory and a distortion of market principles.

The reported U.S. plan—which could start blocking software in 2027 models and hardware by 2029—comes despite minimal Chinese auto exports to America. Only 1.4% of China’s 2023 passenger car exports went to the U.S., with new energy vehicles making up just 0.4%, per industry data. 🔌📉

‘Chinese cars win globally through innovation and quality, not unfair tactics,’ stressed spokesperson Mao Ning earlier this year, highlighting that U.S. automakers have thrived in China’s open market while Washington ‘sets up protectionist barriers.’ 🚩

With the U.S. Commerce Department now seeking public feedback before finalizing rules, the clash over EVs adds fuel to ongoing tech rivalry. Will this accelerate China’s focus on other markets? 🌏💡 Analysts say the move may backfire by limiting options for American consumers as the green transition accelerates.
