Exciting news from the Chinese mainland! 🇨🇳🚗 China's leading battery maker, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), unveiled their latest innovation, the Freevoy, a groundbreaking battery designed specifically for hybrid vehicles.
Freevoy is the world's first hybrid battery boasting a range of over 400 kilometers and featuring superfast-charging capabilities. Imagine adding more than 280 kilometers of driving distance with just a 10-minute charge! ⚡🔋 Gao Huan, CATL's Chief Technology Officer of the E-car Business, shared these impressive stats during the launch in Beijing.
The secret behind Freevoy? It's packed with both sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries, addressing the low-temperature limitations of new energy vehicles (NEVs). This means NEVs can now operate in extremely cold environments, with Freevoy enabling discharging at temperatures as low as −40°C and recharging at −30°C ❄️🧊.
As more Chinese consumers opt for hybrids, CATL's innovation couldn't have come at a better time. Hybrids offer a greater driving range than pure EVs and are more cost-effective than traditional gasoline-powered cars. 📈 According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, hybrid sales reached 3.32 million units in the first nine months of this year, marking an 84.2% increase year-on-year.
\\"The penetration rate of hybrid vehicles in the NEV market reached 43%, which is a force that cannot be ignored in the electrification process,\\" said Luo Jian, CATL's Chief Marketing Officer.
Freevoy is already making waves with various Chinese EV companies like Li Auto and AVATR adopting the technology. It's also set to be featured in models from major carmakers, including Geely and Chery.
Not to mention, CATL's dominance in the global market is hard to miss. Market research firm SNE Research reported that CATL has been the top EV battery supplier worldwide for seven consecutive years, holding a whopping 36.8% of the global EV battery market share in 2023.
Headquartered in Ningde, East China's Fujian Province, CATL continues to expand its influence with supply contracts secured from global automotive giants like BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler, and Honda. 🌐🚀
