Apple Pivots to AI Glasses, Pauses Vision Pro Overhaul 🕶️💡

Hold onto your iPhones, tech fans! 🍎 Apple is shaking up its roadmap by halting development of a cheaper Vision Pro headset to double down on AI-powered smart glasses, according to a Bloomberg report. The move signals a high-stakes race against Meta in the battle for your face.

Why the Switch?

Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro, launched earlier this year with VR/AR hype, has faced lukewarm demand due to limited content and competition from Meta’s more affordable Quest headsets. Now, the company is redirecting teams to build two types of smart glasses:

  • 📱 N50 Glasses (2027 target): iPhone-compatible, no built-in display, heavy on voice commands and AI.
  • 🖥️ Display-Equipped Glasses (2028?): A sleeker rival to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which recently debuted with a wristband controller and athlete-focused designs.

AI Takes Center Stage

With Apple playing catch-up in AI (remember Google’s Gemini demo?), the glasses will reportedly lean into voice interaction and machine learning. The pivot comes weeks after Apple’s iPhone 16 launch, which offered few AI breakthroughs despite thinner designs.

Meta’s Counterpunch

Zuckerberg isn’t backing down: Meta’s $800 smart glasses with displays and Oakley’s Vanguard model for athletes show the company’s ambition. Can Apple’s rumored 2027 timeline give it an edge? Only time—and battery life—will tell. ⚡
