A fourth Guizhou snub-nosed monkey was born this month at a wildlife rescue center in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, marking a small but significant win for conservationists.
Meet Fanfan – the proud mom who just welcomed her fourth baby on March 21! 🐒 Alongside partner Tiantian, these formerly injured wild monkeys found sanctuary at Fanjingshan National Nature Rescue Center in 2016 and 2011. Their growing family now includes Jianjian (6), Kangkang (4), Qianbao (2), and the unnamed newborn.
With fewer than 800 left globally, Guizhou snub-nosed monkeys are among the world’s rarest primates. 🌍 Listed as a top-protected species in China since 1989 and declared Endangered by the IUCN in 2008, their survival hinges on efforts like those at Fanjingshan’s center, which has researched and rehabilitated wildlife since 1990.
Did you know? These monkeys live ONLY around Mount Fanjing – a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique biodiversity. 🏞️ Their survival story reminds us that every birth counts!
