The second day of China's National Day holiday saw an incredible surge in travel, with over 280 million cross-regional trips recorded. This marks a 4.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and a remarkable 15% rise from 2019, according to the Ministry of Transport.
During the week-long holiday starting on October 1, millions of Chinese people took to the roads and rails to enjoy leisure activities and explore new destinations. On Tuesday alone, 21.45 million railway trips were made, setting a new daily record for passenger numbers, as reported by the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.
This year, the transport sector is projected to handle an average of 277 million passenger trips daily throughout the holiday period, a 19.4% increase from 2019 figures, as stated by the Ministry of Transport.
Macao SAR also experienced a boom, with 166,100 visitors entering on October 2. This surpassed the previous single-day record of 162,100 set on October 5, 2019, making it the highest number of daily visitors during the National Day holiday since official statistics began.
To amplify consumption, the Macao SAR, in collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce, launched a large-scale shopping event on September 30. Over 22,000 businesses from various sectors participated, with the business community optimistic about the event driving significant growth amidst the festive atmosphere.
Celebrations in Macao included a flag-raising ceremony, the opening of the fourth sea-crossing bridge, and a dazzling fireworks show on Tuesday.
The Macao Consumer Council played a pivotal role by distributing guides at major border checkpoints. These guides provided travelers with information on \"certified shops\" and consumer protection avenues in Macao, enhancing visitor confidence and promoting the local consumer market.
Many travelers praised the guides for being comprehensive and practical, offering valuable insights that made their shopping experience smoother and more enjoyable.
