Nature's grandest airport is buzzing with activity in northwest China! The Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve in Shaanxi Province – stretching 150km with 46,000 hectares of pristine habitat – is currently hosting its annual ‘bird rush hour’ as migratory flocks prepare to depart.
Winged Wonders on the Move
This ecological hotspot along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway has seen record numbers of cranes, swans, and geese this season. Conservationist Li Wei tells us: ‘What used to be 20 swans in a flock now numbers 200. It’s like watching living clouds take flight!’ 🌤️
Improved environmental protection measures since 2022 have transformed these wetlands into a 5-star avian resort. Birdwatchers can still catch the final weeks of the migration window through late March before our feathered guests head back to Siberian breeding grounds.
