China’s 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities launched in style Friday night, transforming Sanya’s Sports Center into a glowing showcase of culture and innovation. The coastal city in Hainan Province dazzled audiences with a high-tech opening ceremony that blended mesmerizing visuals, traditional music, and a celebration of unity among China’s diverse ethnic groups.

A Fusion of Tradition & Tech

Laser projections, drone displays, and dynamic stage designs brought ancient folk stories to life, while performers from Uygur, Tibetan, Mongolian, and other communities showcased vibrant dances and songs. The event felt like a cultural Coachella, with intricate costumes and rhythms that had the crowd clapping along 🥁💃.

Unity Takes Center Stage

Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the games’ role in fostering mutual respect and harmony. 'This is more than a competition—it’s a bridge connecting hearts,' he said. Over 10,000 athletes from across the Chinese mainland will compete in 17 events, including dragon boat racing, ethnic wrestling, and bamboo pole dancing, through November 5.

Local resident Chen Wei, 24, told NewspaperAmigo.com, 'It’s amazing to see our traditions shine on such a big stage—and with tech that makes it feel like the future!' 🌐✨
