Earthquake in Xizang: Experts Predict Low Risk of Large-Scale Landslides

Following a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that hit Dingri County in Xigaze, located in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, Fan Xuanmei, the director of the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection at Chengdu University of Technology, and her team evaluated the situation. They have determined that there is a low probability of large-scale landslides occurring. 🏔️🌍

Fan Xuanmei stated, \"While there is no sign of immediate damage to the glacier lakes, the rising temperature and melting snow may raise the risk in the future.\" This means that residents and officials will need to monitor these environmental changes to prevent potential hazards as the climate continues to warm. ❄️🔍
