At least 28 people were killed and 54 injured after an Israeli airstrike hit Rafida School in Gaza’s Deir el-Balah on Thursday, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. The organization described the strike as part of the ‘Israeli occupation army’s targeting’ of the facility, which housed displaced families.
The Israeli military confirmed the strike but stated it targeted a ‘Hamas command-and-control center’ operating inside the school compound. ‘The location was being used by Palestinian combatants embedded in civilian infrastructure,’ their statement read.
