A Swift Turn in Nairobi
Kenyan politics just got a plot twist straight out of a Netflix drama! President William Ruto nominated Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki as his new deputy on Friday, hours after the Senate voted to oust former VP Rigathi Gachagua.
Why the Switch?
Gachagua’s impeachment followed charges of constitutional violations, including threatening judges and stoking ethnic divisions. Though cleared of corruption claims, 59 senators said : 'It’s a wrap.' The ex-deputy called the accusations 'nonsensical' and claimed he was treated like a 'spent cartridge' – talk about spicy soundbites!
What’s Next?
Parliament now has 60 days to vote on Kindiki’s nomination. Will Ruto’s pick sail through? Stay tuned – this political rollercoaster isn’t over yet.
