The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Karim Khan, announced on Monday that he has requested the ICC's oversight mechanism to launch an immediate investigation into allegations of misconduct made against him.
In a post on social media platform X, Khan stated, \"I shall cooperate fully with that inquiry,\" emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.
Last week, Khan denied unspecified accusations of misconduct after the court's governing body confirmed it had been notified of the allegations.
As of now, the Independent Oversight Mechanism (IOM) and the court's governing organ to which it reports have not responded to requests for information regarding the potential opening of a formal investigation.
The IOM mentioned in its annual report for 2024 that the alleged victim in Khan's case did not explicitly confirm the allegations during talks with the oversight body earlier this year, resulting in no formal inquiry being initiated.
The ICC remains a pivotal institution, tasked with prosecuting individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression within member states or by their nationals.
Additionally, ICC judges are currently reviewing Khan's May request for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense chief, and leaders of Hamas.
