Serbia Declares National Day of Mourning for Novi Sad Roof Collapse Victims 🕊️🙏

Serbia is coming together in grief as the government has declared November 2 a national day of mourning following a tragic roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station on Friday. 🕊️

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad has reported that 14 bodies have been recovered from the debris so far. 😔

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is urging unity and accountability during this difficult time. \"We all must find the strength to unite, help the families, and do everything in our power to minimize the damage,\" Vucic said. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the rescuers and workers who have worked tirelessly to save lives. 🙏

Earlier, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic described the incident as one of the darkest days in the city's history and a tragedy for all of Serbia. He extended his condolences to the victims' families and thanked everyone involved in the rescue efforts. 🕯️

Although the structure was 60 years old, authorities are committed to identifying those responsible for the collapse, Vucevic stated. 🏢

The concrete platform roof collapsed in front of the railway station, leading to a swift rescue operation. Three people were rescued and taken to the hospital, including two women who were trapped but managed to stay in vocal contact with rescuers. 🚨🚑

Emergency workers arrived at the scene within minutes, with over 80 responders from multiple cities joining the rescue efforts. 🔧👷‍♂️

Initially, eight deaths were reported, but as the rescue continued, more bodies were found, bringing the total to 14. 😢

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced that a thorough investigation will follow the rescue operation to understand what led to this heartbreaking event. 🔍
