Escalating violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has drawn sharp international concern, with the U.S. State Department calling out M23 rebels for 'grave ceasefire violations' this week.
Spokesperson Matthew Miller urged M23 to immediately halt attacks and withdraw from occupied areas in Walikale territory, part of the conflict-ridden North Kivu Province. 'These actions threaten regional stability and humanitarian efforts,' the statement emphasized.
The DRC – rich in minerals but plagued by decades of unrest – continues to grapple with armed groups vying for control. Analysts say tensions could ripple across Central Africa if diplomacy falters.
