Lithuanian officials confirmed Monday that aviation investigators from Spain and Germany are en route to Vilnius to assist in uncovering the cause of a DHL-operated cargo plane crash near the city’s airport. \"Safety is our priority—this investigation could take a year,\" said Laurynas Naujokaitis, head of Lithuania’s Transport Accident Division.
The Boeing 737-476 (SF) aircraft, owned by Spain’s Swift Air and leased to DHL, crashed into a residential building during a flight from Leipzig, Germany. One pilot died, and three others were injured.
Germany is sending four experts while Spain contributes two, with U.S. aviation authorities also notified since the plane was manufactured stateside. Naujokaitis emphasized the probe will focus strictly on aviation safety, not liability.
This multinational collaboration highlights the global nature of air travel safety efforts—no detail is too small when lives are on the line.
