New York City police confirmed Friday that the suspect in the targeted killing of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thomson may have fled the city, escalating a nationwide manhunt. Authorities released new footage showing the gunman entering the Port Authority bus terminal, sparking fears he's now beyond NYC borders.
The Chase is On
Thomson, 50, CEO of UnitedHealth's insurance unit, was shot in the back Wednesday in what investigators call a "premeditated attack." The suspect vanished on an e-bike into Central Park—a move straight out of a crime thriller —but fresh video reveals he later took a taxi to the bus hub. "We believe he boarded an interstate bus," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
The 48-Hour Window
With critical evidence like the murder weapon and e-bike still missing, experts warn time is slipping away. "It's like solving a jigsaw puzzle without all the pieces," said former NYPD detective Felipe Rodriguez. The first two days after a crime offer the best chance to catch perpetrators—a deadline that expired Friday morning.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch urged the public to stay vigilant: "Someone knows where this person is." Meanwhile, UnitedHealth has yet to comment on whether Thomson's role involved sensitive corporate decisions that might explain the attack.
