The UN General Assembly has made a powerful plea for peace, passing a resolution with a commanding majority of 158 votes in favor. This resolution calls for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the release of all hostages.
Despite the widespread support, the resolution was met with resistance from Israel and the United States. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon labeled the vote a “betrayal” and an “abandonment” of the hostages, while Deputy American Ambassador Robert Wood expressed concerns that adopting the resolution could send Hamas the dangerous message that there is no need to negotiate or release hostages.
Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Gaza is the bleeding heart of Palestine and an open wound for humanity.”
China also voiced its support for peace, with Ambassador Fu Cong urging the international community to push for a ceasefire. “A ceasefire is essential for saving lives and restoring peace,” he said, stressing the importance of upholding international law.
However, the resolution's future remains uncertain as the U.S. exercised its veto power to block the ceasefire, reflecting ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitics involved in the region. 🤝🌐
