Gaza Faces 5-Year Rubble Cleanup Challenge 💔🚧

Clearing 50 million tonnes of rubble in Gaza could take 3–5 years, Palestinian Minister Ahed Bseiso announced Thursday, as recovery efforts begin following the recent conflict with Israel. 🏗️

The process hinges on securing funding, equipment, and expertise to remove debris—including explosives—and reopen critical roads. 🚧 The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is among groups collaborating on the massive project.

Bseiso revealed 400,000 housing units were destroyed, requiring 200,000 new builds. Families displaced by the damage will receive temporary housing or financial aid, while repairs start on partially damaged homes. 🏘️

Per the UN, the cleanup could cost $1.2 billion. Gaza’s Media Office estimates $38 billion in total losses, with 88% of the Strip damaged. A resident-led study of 250,000 damage reports is now guiding recovery priorities.
