British Prime Minister Keir Starmer outlined a four-step plan aimed at guaranteeing peace in Ukraine. This plan includes maintaining military aid to Ukraine amid ongoing conflicts, increasing economic pressure on Russia, ensuring Ukraine's sovereignty and security are upheld in any peace negotiations, deterring future invasions by Russia, and establishing a dedicated coalition to defend Ukraine and maintain peace.
\"Europe must do the heavy lifting,\" Starmer emphasized, highlighting the need for support from U.S. President Donald Trump. \"Let me be clear, we agree with U.S. President Donald Trump on the urgent need for a durable peace. Now we need to deliver together,\" he stated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the summit, saying that European unity was \"at an extremely high level not seen for a long time.\" He added, \"We are all working together in Europe in order to find a basis for cooperation with America for true peace and guaranteed security.\"
Key leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, called for increased defense spending to support the coalition and potentially secure a U.S. security guarantee in the event of peace.
