S Korea Urges Japan to Address Forced Labor History at UNESCO Site 🏛️

South Korea has called on Japan to fulfill its commitments to acknowledge the dark history of forced labor at the Sado Island Gold Mines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The move comes amid ongoing tensions over how Japan addresses its wartime past. 🌏

Last year, South Korea agreed to list the site in exchange for Japan’s promise to display its entire history, including the forced mobilization of Koreans during Japan’s 1910–1945 colonial rule. But Seoul claims Tokyo has yet to mention the victims at the site. 🚨

Historians say thousands of Koreans were forced to work in the mine, which later produced war materials during WWII. The site closed in 1989 but remains a symbol of unresolved grievances. 💔

South Korea’s Foreign Ministry stated it will continue diplomatic talks with Japan, urging 'faithful implementation' of UNESCO’s decision. Will 2025 bring progress—or more deadlock? 🤝
