Libya Tightens Security in Tripoli Ahead of Army Chief’s Funeral 🚨

Heightened Alert as Capital Prepares for High-Profile Funeral

Libyan authorities deployed armored vehicles and special forces across Tripoli yesterday evening, establishing a security cordon ahead of today’s funeral for army chief Mohammed al-Haddad and seven others killed in a plane crash near Ankara. The move follows concerns about potential unrest during the emotionally charged event.

Crash Investigation and Regional Tensions

Al-Haddad, who was in Türkiye for military talks, died alongside four officials and three crew members when their aircraft went down south of Ankara on Tuesday. The Libyan Interior Ministry confirmed Thursday that the flight’s black box will be analyzed in Germany, with Turkish and Libyan investigators collaborating on the probe.

Military Processions and Public Mourning

Social media footage showed convoys moving from Tajoura military camp to central Tripoli, while local media reported funeral prayers will occur later today following the bodies’ repatriation. The ceremonies are expected to draw international dignitaries and crowds of mourners, testing security preparations in the divided nation.
