Trump Warns Colombian Leader: ‘Another Strike Sounds Good’ in 2026 Tensions 🌎⚡

U.S. President Donald Trump sparked global alarm on Sunday night (January 4) after threatening Colombian President Gustavo Petro during a press briefing, declaring, “He’s not going to be doing it for very long.” The remarks, made aboard Air Force One, escalated tensions in Latin America as Trump accused Petro of running “cocaine mills” without providing evidence.

🗣️ “It Sounds Good to Me”

When asked about potential U.S. military action against Colombia, Trump replied, “It sounds good to me,” doubling down on his controversial stance. He labeled Colombia’s government as “run by a sick man” linked to drug trafficking—a claim swiftly rejected by Petro.

🌍 Regional Fallout

Petro called for an emergency Organization of American States (OAS) meeting on Saturday (January 3) to address U.S. aggression, following Trump’s recent hints about expanding military operations in Mexico and Colombia. Analysts warn the rhetoric risks destabilizing cross-border relations, particularly with Venezuela.

This isn’t the first time Trump has targeted Colombia: in a December 2025 interview with Politico, he floated military interventions abroad, raising eyebrows worldwide.
