Greenland Leaders Reject U.S. Acquisition: ‘We Decide Our Future’

🇬🇱 Greenland's political leaders made a unified stand yesterday, declaring their opposition to U.S. efforts to acquire the autonomous Danish territory. In a rare joint statement titled 'We Stand Together as One People', all major party leaders emphasized: 'We do not want to be Americans.'

The January 9, 2026 declaration comes amid renewed geopolitical focus on the Arctic region. Leaders stressed that decisions about Greenland's future 'must be made by the Greenlandic people themselves', citing international law and their 2009 Self-Government Act. ❄️

While affirming continued cooperation with Western nations, the statement called for an end to what they described as 'the United States' disregard for our country'. The rebuke follows controversial 2019 remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about acquiring Greenland, which resurfaced in recent policy debates.

Analysts suggest this bold stance reflects growing Arctic sovereignty concerns among Greenland's 56,000 residents as climate change opens new shipping routes and resource opportunities. 🌐
