Cape Town Fog Disrupts Port Operations 🌫️

Thick morning sea fog blanketed Cape Town’s iconic waterfront this week, causing significant delays at one of Africa’s busiest ports. The ethereal weather phenomenon, while creating Instagram-worthy scenes 🎨, slowed cargo handling and ship movements, leaving logistics teams scrambling.

Local authorities reported a 40% drop in operational efficiency during peak fog hours, with visibility reduced to under 500 meters. "It’s like nature pressed pause on our cranes," said port worker Luyolo Mbatha, 28. Travelers, however, are reveling in the dreamy coastal vistas, with Table Mountain often appearing to float above the mist.

Meteorologists attribute the fog to a clash between warm inland air and cold Atlantic currents—a common January occurrence. With climate patterns shifting, researchers at the University of Cape Town are studying whether these events will intensify in 2026.
