FIS President Hails Beijing 2022 Legacy as Milano Cortina 2026 Kicks Off 🎿✨

As the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics prepare to launch this week, FIS President Johan Eliasch is celebrating China’s snow sports legacy while eyeing the challenges of Italy’s ambitious multi-venue Games. ❄️

In an interview with CGTN, Eliasch praised Beijing 2022’s world-class infrastructure and its lasting impact: "The events this season highlight China’s Olympic legacy… their capacity to host elite competitions is undeniable." He also noted how Beijing’s venues continue to boost athlete performance and global media engagement. 🏟️

Milano Cortina 2026, set to begin February 6 with snowboarding events starting February 5, will spread competitions across five locations—the most decentralized Winter Games ever. While Eliasch called this approach "innovative," he flagged logistical hurdles: "Higher costs, carbon footprints… is this the future or an experiment?" 🌍

All eyes will be on Chinese freeski star Gu Ailing, who aims to build on her historic Beijing 2022 golds. Eliasch added: "Gu Ailing is someone everybody will watch." Meanwhile, Alpine legend Lindsey Vonn’s return adds extra star power. 🌟

With the Games poised to test sustainability and logistics, Eliasch’s reflections remind us: Olympic legacies aren’t just about medals—they’re about shaping sports’ future. 🏅
