China Voices Concern as U.S.-Russia Nuclear Pact Expires 🌐⚛️

China has expressed regret over the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between the U.S. and Russia, calling it a critical pillar of global stability. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the treaty's role in maintaining strategic balance during a briefing on Thursday, February 5, 2026, warning that its lapse could destabilize nuclear governance worldwide. 🕊️

Lin urged Washington to engage constructively with Moscow after Russia proposed extending the treaty's core limits. "The international community hopes for responsible dialogue," he stated, highlighting concerns about weakened arms control frameworks. The treaty, active since 2011, previously capped nuclear arsenals but faced uncertainty after the U.S. exited a separate pact in 2019.

With young audiences in mind: Think of this like a high-stakes game of diplomatic Jenga—remove one block (New START), and the whole system wobbles. 🌍 Will superpowers step back from the brink? Stay tuned.
