China, Africa Forge Industrial Ties at WTO Meeting 🌍🏗️

Trade ministers from China and African nations met this week in Cameroon during the WTO’s 14th Ministerial Conference, sparking fresh momentum for industrial collaboration. With Africa’s manufacturing sector lagging at under 3% of global output, leaders are pushing to transform raw material exports into high-value goods. 💼

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao announced plans to launch five new industrial cooperation hubs across Africa, building on existing economic zones that have already attracted over $13 billion in investment. ‘By sharing expertise in infrastructure and skills training, we can drive regional integration,’ he said, citing a 2025 IMF report showing Africa’s local processing rate tripling to 45% thanks to Chinese partnerships. 📈

Ghana’s Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare emphasized the need for tech transfers and green industrialization, while Ethiopia’s Kassahun Gofe highlighted job-boosting projects like the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway. ‘Cooperation isn’t just about talks—it’s factories running and jobs created,’ Gofe stated. 🚂

With China-Africa trade hitting $348 billion last year (+17.7% YoY), both sides are now negotiating WTO agreements to further streamline investment and expand Africa’s exports to the Chinese mainland. 🌐
