China Urges Australia: Honor Commitments on Taiwan

🇨🇳 Tensions flared between China and Australia this week as Beijing called on Canberra to uphold its political commitments regarding Taiwan. The Chinese Embassy in Australia slammed a recent statement from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as "distorting facts" and demanded an immediate halt to interference in China’s internal affairs. 🔥

The spat began after DFAT expressed concern over recent Chinese military drills near the Taiwan region. China’s embassy spokesperson fired back, accusing the U.S. of fueling instability through arms sales to Taiwan and warning that such actions turn the island into a "powder keg." 💣

"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," the spokesperson emphasized, calling Taiwan-related issues "China’s internal affairs" that tolerate no external meddling. The PLA exercises, they added, are legitimate responses to separatist activities and foreign interference. 🛡️

China also reminded Australia that the one-China principle forms the bedrock of bilateral relations. With cross-strait tensions simmering, Beijing urged Canberra to "stop condoning Taiwan independence forces" and prioritize stability in Asia-Pacific diplomacy. 🌏
