🇿🇦 SA President Ramaphosa Condemns Interception of Aid Ships

South Africa has called for the immediate release of activists detained by Israel after its navy intercepted a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza. President Cyril Ramaphosa slammed the move as a 'grave offense' against global solidarity efforts to ease suffering in the conflict-torn region.

🚢 The Flotilla Mission: Breaking Blockades, Delivering Hope

The Global Sumud Flotilla – featuring 50 ships and 500+ volunteers from 40+ countries – aimed to challenge Israel's naval blockade and deliver food and medical supplies to Gaza. Since August, the fleet reportedly faced drone strikes and intimidation tactics before being diverted to Ashdod port this week.

⚖️ 'Violation of International Law'

Ramaphosa emphasized the interception in international waters breached sovereignty and defied an International Court of Justice order to allow unimpeded aid. Among those detained is Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, grandson of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.

🌍 Global Solidarity vs. Geopolitical Tensions

'This flotilla represents solidarity with Gaza, not confrontation,' Ramaphosa stated, urging Israel to let the aid reach Palestinians. The incident highlights escalating tensions over Gaza's humanitarian crisis amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
