Malaysia-China Palm Oil Trade Fuels Green Growth 🌿💼

In the first half of 2024, trade between China and ASEAN soared to 3.36 trillion yuan ($463 billion), marking a 10.5% year-on-year increase. Among the key commodities driving this growth is palm oil, a vital edible oil import for China. Malaysia stands as China's second-largest palm oil supplier from ASEAN, trailing only Indonesia.

At a recent Malaysia-China Green Value Chain Partnership roundtable dialogue, CGTN's Emma Ho engaged with industry representatives and government officials to explore how the burgeoning palm oil trade is advancing the green agenda. Discussions highlighted sustainable farming practices, eco-friendly production processes, and initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of palm oil cultivation.

This dynamic trade relationship not only bolsters economic ties but also underscores a mutual commitment to sustainable development. As both nations navigate the complexities of global markets, the focus remains on balancing growth with environmental stewardship, paving the way for a greener future.
